About

About the centre

Kindamindi is a small 32-place long day care centre on the border of Bondi and Tamarama, in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The centre nurtures and cares for children aged from 6 months up to 6 years old, between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. The centre has been in operation for over 40 years and is well loved and respected in the community.

We are an independent, not-for-profit, community based centre, run as a co-operative, by a voluntary parent management Board and an employed Centre Director. The day to day running of the Centre is managed by our Centre (and Education) Director, responsible for managing all aspects of the centre’s daily operations and education programs for all children.

The parent board and committee works collaboratively with the Centre Director and a team of dedicated, experienced and passionate educators. All parents who enrol a child into the centre become members of the co-operative and are expected to have an “active” involvement in the centre community and operations.

We do not allow for unscheduled, ad hoc visits. Please email admin@kindamindibondi.org to organise a tour date. Our current daily fees are $145/day which includes meals. We are an approved centre for Child Care Subsidy (CCS) which may reduce your daily fees if you apply and are found to be eligible and approved by Centrelink. You must apply directly to Centrelink for CCS assessment.

Please visit our FAQs page on this website for further information and answers to common queries (including about CCS).

Management structure and operation

Kindamindi is a small, not-for-profit Co-Operative, governed by a set of Rules (ie. a Constitution), registered with the NSW Department of Fair Trading (DFT). The DFT is the regulatory authority which governs all Co-Operatives in NSW.

All parents must join the Kindamindi Co-Operative to utilise the Kindamindi childcare service. All parents who become members of the Co-Op are bound by the Rules and all codes and policies of the Co-Op. All members must be active members in supporting the activites and goals of the centre. We are not part of a large corporate childcare chain. We are proud of our small centre and we rely on our parent community to actively support our staff, goals and initiatives to keep Kindamindi thriving.

The Board of Directors is made up of parent members, voted in at the Annual General Meeting. The Board has over-arching management responsibility for the Co-Op and must meet at least quarterly. The Board has a minimum of 5 directors at all times.

The PMC (Parent Management Committee) is a less formal group, which all members are encouraged to participate in. Meetings are held approximately every 8-12 weeks at the centre (usually from 7-8pm). There are opportunities for all members to contribute to the Co-Operative throughout the year, including:

Participating in project plans as part of the PMC
Visiting kindy to present to the children about a special topic
Handyman and professional trade skills – plumbing, repairs, lights, door frames, screws, electricals, painting
Professional guidance to the Co-Op – financial, legal, HR, recruitment
Organising and participating in social parent and staff events
Fundraising activities – BBQ and bake sales, sponsorship drives
Staff reward/acts of kindness – provide morning/afternoon tea for staff
Volunteering to attend any excursions with children and staff

The Centre Director is employed by the Co-Operative (by the Board) to manage the day to day operations and overall running and educational programs of the centre.
